Upstart’s flagship product is the personal loan, designed for one-time lump sum needs such as debt consolidation or major expenses. If you own a vehicle, the personal loan application may also offer an auto-secured option, which allows you to use your car as collateral to potentially secure better terms. This is different from auto loan refinancing, which Upstart no longer offers as of July 2026.

Cash LineTM is a personal line of credit accessible directly through the Upstart app, providing flexible, ongoing access to funds.

A HELOC (home equity line of credit) is originated through Upstart Home Lending, a separate affiliated entity, and allows existing homeowners to tap into their home equity.

Relief Loans are a hardship-focused product designed to provide a modest amount of cash when you face financial challenges. For specific details on product availability in your area, please refer to the state-by-state availability guide.apply for personal loan

What is not available on Upstart?

Not all loan types are available through Upstart, knowing what’s off the table upfront can save you time and effort. The following loan products are not available through upstart:

  • Business loans: While Upstart does not offer dedicated small-business loans, business lines of credit, or SBA products, some lenders on the Upstart platform may allow you to use a personal loan for business purposes. Always review the terms provided by the specific lender you are matched with to ensure the loan purpose is permitted.
  • Student loans: Upstart doesn’t originate student loans. If you’re looking to refinance student debt, you can work directly with your federal loan servicer or a dedicated student loan refinance company.
  • Credit cards: Upstart doesn’t issue credit cards of any kind.
  • First-lien mortgages: Upstart doesn’t offer home-purchase mortgages. The HELOC available through Upstart Home Lending is for existing homeowners tapping equity, not for buying a home.
  • Payday loans: Upstart doesn’t offer payday loans or other short-term, high-cost credit. The Relief Loan exists as a hardship-focused alternative through the platform instead.

Does Upstart still offer auto loan refinancing?

No. Upstart discontinued auto loan refinancing in 2026. Some third-party websites and AI-generated search summaries still list it as a current option, but that information is outdated. If you already have a loan from the former refinancing program, it continues to be serviced as normal. The change only affects new applications.

However, the auto-secured personal loan option is still available (depending on your state), which lets vehicle owners use their car as collateral.

How to check your eligibility through Upstart

Personal loans, including the auto-secured option, Cash LineTM, and Relief Loans can all be applied for directly on Upstart.com or in the Upstart app. A HELOC is applied for through Upstart Home Lending at upstartmortgage.com. Checking your rate starts with a soft credit inquiry, which doesn’t affect your credit score¹.

Eligibility, rates, and terms vary by product and by state. Confirming availability before you start an application saves you time, since a product that isn’t offered in your state will show up as ineligible early in the process.

What else affects your eligibility?

Beyond your location, Upstart’s model looks at your credit history, current income, employment status, and, for personal loans, education², to make an approval decision. These factors carry different weight depending on the product: collateral value matters if you use the auto-secured option, and home equity matters for the HELOC.

Which Upstart product fits your situation?

There is no universal best option among Upstart’s products, since the right one depends on your needs and financial situation. If you need a one-time lump sum for debt consolidation or a major expense, a personal loan is a strong fit. If you want ongoing, flexible access to funds, Cash LineTM, available within the Upstart app, is the option. If you’re tapping home equity, that’s the HELOC through Upstart Home Lending. If you own a vehicle, you may be offered an auto-secured option within your personal loan application. If you’re facing a short-term financial hardship and need a smaller amount fast, the Relief Loan is built for that.

  1. Checking your rate won’t affect your credit score: When you check your rate, we check your credit report. This initial (soft) inquiry will not affect your credit score. If you take out a loan, repayment information may be reported to the credit bureaus.
  2. Upstart’s model considers education: Neither Upstart nor its lending partners have a minimum educational attainment requirement in order to be eligible for a loan.

In this example, the borrower will receive $9275 and will make 60 monthly payments of $252. APR is calculated based on 5-year rates offered in March 2026. There is no downpayment and no prepayment penalty. Your APR will be determined based on your credit, income, and certain other information provided in your loan application.
