Diversity is a core American strength and should be a central pillar of the technology community and the larger business community. Furthermore, our board of directors should reflect the communities we aim to serve and the companies we hope to become.

As such, I’m excited to announce that Upstart is participating in the The Board Challenge as a charter pledge partner. This initiative, founded by Altimeter Capital, Valence, and theBoardlist, seeks to improve the representation of Black leaders on the boards of U.S. companies. As a company with multiple Black directors today, Upstart is committed to accelerating representation of Black leaders on the board of all U.S. companies.

I’m also pleased to announce that Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, founder of theBoardlist and The Board Challenge, has joined Upstart’s board of directors recently. Having known Sukhinder since our early days at Google more than 15 years ago, I can attest she is both a force of nature and a fearless advocate for the power of diversity. We are blessed to have someone of her caliber to help Upstart on our journey. Welcome, Sukhinder!
