Capital Markets Analyst

Upstart is searching for a Capital Markets Analyst/Associate to take ownership of many aspects of the investor side of our business. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing unique investor strategies between Upstart and its retail and institutional investors, and helping foster ever-improving investor relations and expansion. As part of an early stage team, the Capital Markets Analyst/Associate will have a huge degree of responsibility and the opportunity to rise quickly within the organization, hand in hand with our growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a sales pipeline including daily interaction with prospective institutional investors
  • Overseeing investor due diligence
  • Actively involved in constructing warehouse financing and securitization deals
  • Overseeing investor reporting, funding, and returns analyses
  • Supporting/managing the investor onboarding process
  • Managing relations with existing investors on the platform
  • Leading and developing analyses and presentations to market Upstart to institutional investors, family offices, and high net worth individuals

Requirements:

  • 1 – 3 years work experience in financial services required; direct experience in capital markets strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with the marketplace lending and related capital markets and securitization transactions
  • Excellent quantitative, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and desire to interact with, and relate to, sophisticated investors
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to work well under pressure, thrive working under limited direction, and an attitude that no job is too challenging or too small

Capital Markets Manager - Securitizations

Upstart is looking for a Capital Markets Manager who will drive the structure, execution, and surveillance of our securitization program and lending arrangements. This person will need to have a good understanding of financial markets and develop an understanding of the company’s assets and financing vehicles. He/She should have a thorough understanding of discounted cash flow analysis and the ability to apply financial modeling techniques to consumer loan portfolios and financing instruments. The Manager will need to develop an understanding of the laws and regulations governing unsecured consumer loans. He/She will interact regularly with external clients, service providers, and internal constituents.

The Capital Markets Manager will have a huge degree of responsibility and the opportunity to rise quickly within the organization. This position will report directly to the Head of Capital Markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Upstart’s securitization platform, focusing on structure, execution, and programmatic issuance.
  • Enhance the Institutional Investor, Bank partnership and Rating Agency relationships
  • Works closely with finance and legal to expand our footprint in the structured products space
  • Identify opportunities to enhance and improve team processes, procedures, surveillance, and reporting.
  • Active participation in the overall operation of the institutional investor platform.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in Structured Products and Securitization Structuring.
  • Familiarity with marketplace lending and related securitization transactions.
  • Financial analysis and modeling skills
  • Combination of academic aptitude, quantitative skills, and personal motivation
  • Excellence in working effectively as an individual and as part of a team, and an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Data Analyst - Capital Markets

Upstart is searching for its first Capital Markets Data Analyst, who will shape the data and reporting infrastructure behind all our securitization and lending programs, performance, and controls. They will have the analytical ability to own and solve complex problems with little guidance. The ideal person will have experience supporting ABS transaction preparation, structuring, and execution.

As the third member of our Capital Markets team and the first Data Analyst, this person will have a huge degree of responsibility, and the opportunity to rise quickly within our growing organization. This position will report directly to the Head of Capital Markets.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in structuring ABS transactions and warehouse facilities
  • Programmatically create loan pool and portfolio analytics
  • Develop reporting and control procedures to support above efforts
  • Create loan credit performance reports for rating agencies, investment banks and investors
  • Support cash management efforts and account setup for investors
  • Develop framework to monitor lending facilities and ABS triggers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, or economics
  • 3-7 years of relevant experience, ideally in structured products and securitization structuring.
  • Prior experience developing and utilizing consumer credit data warehouses strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of ABS and whole loan sales execution
  • Excellence in working effectively as an individual and as part of a team. An ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Head of Investor Operations

As the Head of the Investor Operations team, you will be responsible for the development and management of all operational aspects relating to institutional investors on our platform while partnering across the business to build a scalable and technology-driven operational model. This position will report directly to the Head of Capital Markets

Responsibilities

  • Oversee onboarding & integration of new institutional investors
  • Develop and manage relationships with 3rd party investment entities
  • Improve and build on investor reporting capabilities
  • Lead and manage internal stakeholders ahead of capital markets transactions
  • Point person for operational heads at banks and investment funds
  • Seek new operational partners, allowing the company to grow efficiently from a capital markets perspective

Requirements

  • 5-10+ years work experience in Operations; direct experience in Investor Operations required; experience in marketplace lending strongly preferred
  • Experience building out infrastructure to accommodate investor needs
  • Experience dealing with commercial banks
  • Existing relationships with relevant 3rd party investors and institutions strongly preferred
