Co-Founder of Authentic8, Inc.
Scott Petry is a Co-Founder of Authentic8, Inc. Scott founded Postini in 1999 and continued to lead the company through its acquisition by Google in 2007 for $625 million. Scott began his career at Apple Computer in the product management group where he worked on AppleTalk newtorking products and the Newton PDA product. He was a US national team rower and won a bronze medal in the 1987 world championships.
You’ve finished college, finished rowing, and now you’ll begin your next chapter. In the spirit of having 3 things to keep in mind, I’ll share with you 3 things to keep in mind :-)
- Win and lose as gracefully as you did in sport. Be the kind of person that you’d like to be around. Stay grounded, whether you’re an employee, a peer, or a leader.
- Simplify. The signal to noise ratio is about to get worse. Choose your heading and know why; use your simple constructs to justify your position and to keep others focused.
- As Dave Weins said to me, “Prepare like Lance is coming”. Your natural abilities will only take you so far. Although the business environment is more subjective than sport, that doesn’t mean there isn’t hard work. Prepare like Lance is coming.
Good luck, Scott. I’ll see you in 20 years and we’ll compare notes.
